Cue social.

Problem

Cell phones and notifications make it hard to focus, and can be harmful in social situations. Instead of socializing, many people open their phones and don't give full attention to one another.

Discovering the form for a device that removes people's cell phones from their hands took hundreds of thumbnail sketches.

Producing large volumes of fast sketches comes naturally for me.

“It began at the dinner table.

My phone would buzz, and I would check it without any thought. What I didn’t realize was the other people at the table, they were thinking about it.”

Solution

Cue is a device that utilizes group collaboration and charging to motivate people in social situations not to use their phones.

Although power stations that charge multiple devices simultaneously exist, none rely on teamwork to operate.

Finding a balance between showing the screen and concealing it was the true challenge, because no one wants to miss an urgent message.

Plug the device into the wall to charge it. Unplug it and bring it to a social event.

Turn the device on by pressing the power button.

The internal circuit board detects the number
of devices inserted, and will only begin charging when three phones are present.
