If your safety or your possessions are in question, staying calm matters.
The system detects movement, a door opens, or maybe the batteries are going dead, but before the company can contact you, your phone displays a flurry of caps-lock notifications. From the distress created by the situation, to the copy itself, the overall experience is stressful.

In this project, I aimed to create a fun onboarding and customization experience, and reduce the stress of a tenet when the system detects something may be awry.

Inspiration
The experience of playing Monument Valley, (especially with headphones) is soothing and amusing. After sketching for a while, I realized it would be exciting to interact with the action of arming a home security system in a way that feels similar to Monument.

If I were to further develop the concept for the ADT app, I would focus heavily on the sound design.

Final Design

The onboarding experience begins when a technician from the company installs the system in the home. When the devices, infrastructure, and mobile app are connecting, the tenet will be given a chance to customize a simplified, toy-like virtual representation of their own home, which will become a key element of the app's home page and method of accessing the security system.
